Family Dedication:

The Azlan siblings, supported by their family, have shown a remarkable love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Azlan Iskandar, a former squash champion and occasional BJJ competitor, is filled with pride for his three children: “I’m very proud of all my three kids and their achievements with BJJ at Monarchy,” he shares. Alongside this supportive father is their mother, Yiu Lin, who has been a constant presence, providing care and encouragement throughout their journey. The highs and lows, such as the victories for Ava and Luca and the challenges faced by Zara, have brought the family closer, embracing every step of their collective journey.

Coaching Excellence:

The support from Coach Mehdi Bagheri in Abu Dhabi and the solid training from Coach Diego at Monarchy MMA have been key. Their wrestling classes with Mehdi clearly paid off, as Luca became a takedown machine during the competition, showcasing his skills on the mat. Azlan expresses his gratitude: “A big thanks to Monarchy, Professors Diego and Mehdi, and all the kids’ teammates.” Working together like this has been really important in helping the kids get better and better at their sport.

Bright Futures:

Reflecting on the future, Azlan notes, “BJJ is a long and honest journey. The level at Monarchy is high, and with more competition time and targeted training, I’m confident the kids will excel internationally. It takes hard work and a bit of obsession with the sport to reach the top.” He underscores the parental commitment required, “Investing time and money in your kids is essential to providing them with the best platforms to succeed and to continue making champions for years.”
